Test Unit 2019 Keynote Lecture: Richard Sennett

Over the course of the last five decades, Richard Sennett has written about civic life in cities, social theory and the history of labour. His books include Families Against the City, The Hidden Injuries of Class, The Fall of Public Man, Authority, The Corrosion of Character, Respect, The Culture of the New Capitalism, Together, The Craftsman, and Building and Dwelling.In 2012, Sennett founded Theatrum Mundi, a research foundation for urban culture.

Theatrum Mundi will be in residence at Civic House in June to work on ‘Making Cultural Infrastructure’ – their ongoing inquiry into how cities can create the necessary conditions for cultural production.Drawing on his extensive critical research into cities and urban culture, we have invited Richard to contribute to our wider discussion around the theme for this year’s Test Unit summer school – Material Flows.
