Listening to the Anthropocene

Creative Carbon Scotland is pleased to invite you to the next in our series of Green Tease events, organised in collaboration with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

This event will use perspectives from music and sound to interrogate the idea of the ‘Anthropocene’ – the postulated new geological epoch characterised by human-caused impacts on the environment. We will bring together campaigners, musicians, conservationists, geographers, and others to discuss issues including:

• How has human activity fundamentally altered the planet’s natural balance?
• Why are music and sound valuable as methods of conceptualising our relationship with the natural world?
• How do we need to adapt to changes in our environment caused by climate change?
• Where can musicians and sound artists most effectively use their skills to promote environmental causes?
• What are the problems with the concept of the Anthropocene?

This event will include:

• Deep listening exercises and thought exercises to build an understanding of how hearing is an important aspect of how we relate to and conceptualise our environment.
• Presentations from musicians, environmental campaigners, and policy makers, including a chance to hear some music.
• Dynamic group discussions, expanding on issues that come up during the event.

Venue: Civic House, 26 Civic Street, Glasgow, G4 9RH. The venue is located 5 minutes walks from Cowcaddens subway station and 15 minutes walk from Glasgow Central station. The room is located on the ground floor and is wheelchair accessible.
