Rough House: Field Recording
Field Recording
Sun 10th April | 14:00 – 15:00 | FREE
Gordon Douglas, Tom Graham
In Summer 2015, Gordon spent six weeks living in Cambridge with Tom, a member of post-punk band ‘Business Lunch’, and sole producer of the band’s second album. Over the course of the summer, Tom had given himself the task of writing and recording the entire album in the band’s spiritual home, a place all of them had lived at some point, and the site where the band initially started jamming together. All the empty rooms had been converted into recording studios for specific instrumentation, and everything was recorded on to an eight-track tape.
Field Recording is the cassette tape document of the conversation they had at the end of summer, when Tom was about to hand the house over to new housemates. The two reflect on what it means to produce whilst displaced from your scene, ideas of fraternity in the context of their situations, and how best to remember the intangible notion of a friendship.
