Coorie Doon is back and looking forward to welcoming you all to Civic House on 8 June! We’re already looking out our most summery music in the hope of enticing the sun out from behind the rain clouds!

Saturday 8 June 2024, 5pm to late

Kids welcome until 8pm (for free)

The response from our mailing list was way beyond what we expected and we sold out all advance tickets in less than 24 hours. If you missed out, fear not, we are going to have at least 50 tickets on the door, so please do come down on the night.

As always we’ll be partying in our spiritual home at @civichouse_ and with the same welcoming atmosphere and great sound setup courtesy of @loudandclearglasgow and @danleydistribution / @alivesoundltd

This time around we’re delighted to be partnering with @milk_cafeglasgow to bring you fantastic food for the night. If you are not familiar with Milk, they are a social enterprise set up to support women from a migrant background, including refugees and asylum seekers, with an aim to “provide a safe and welcoming environment that promotes integration within the community”. If any of you frequented their cafe when it was open to the public on Victoria Road then you know just how good they are, and the incredible community work they do. They will be bringing plenty of food to sell on the night – see menu in the pics for more details.

For this party we are also chuffed to be fundraising for the Glasgow branch of the Alarm Phone. Alarm Phone is a self-organised hotline for refugees in distress at Europe’s sea borders, with the main objective to aid rescues of people on boats in distress. Part of our ticket sales, and sale of posters on the night will be donated to supporting Alarm Phone’s vital work.

Find the Ticket Tailor page here if you want to join the waiting list for any returns, otherwise get down early on the night to get a ticket on the door!

Looking forward to partying with you all in June!

About Coorie Doon

Coorie Doon is a Glasgow dance party built on the uplifting power of music and the collective joy of the dance floor. We aim to capture the best of a house party experience, whilst being open to all. Our inspiration comes from the ethos of David Mancuso’s radical Loft party. To find out more about our party’s values and origins head over to our website.

This is a party for anyone and everyone with a love of music and dancing, particularly those who don’t feel at home in the usual commercial club setting – we hope our party offers something different. If you’d like to come along on your own or with friends and feel a bit unsure, get in contact and we’ll make sure to introduce you to some folks in our burgeoning community.

We are a non-profit group and any proceeds from one party will be invested into making the next one even better. We also raise money for charities and local groups aligned with our values. For this party we are pleased to be fundraising for the Glasgow branch of the Alarm Phone. Alarm Phone is a self-organised hotline for refugees in distress at Europe’s sea borders. Run by volunteers across Europe and North Africa, the main objective of the network is to aid rescues of people on boats in distress. It also supports families in their search for missing loved ones. The Glasgow team, set up a year ago, is raising funds towards the direct costs of the Alarm Phone – most funds are spent on keeping in direct contact with people at sea via satellite phones. Part of our ticket sales, and sale of posters on the night will be donated to supporting Alarm Phone’s vital work.

If you think you’d like to get involved in making the party happen, we’re always open to new community members. Come say hi at the party or drop us an email. The more diverse and open folks involved the better party for everyone.

The venue

Our spiritual home is Civic House First floor Studio. With its open plan space, wooden floors and vaulted ceiling, the venue is ideal for hosting our Loft-inspired party and delivering excellent room acoustics and house party atmosphere. We truly believe there is no better space in Glasgow.

The sound

As before, we’re incredibly lucky to be working with Iain Mackie and Andrew Pirie. Iain is the Director of Danley Distribution and A-Live Sound, and has installed some of the best sound systems for venues and events around the world including We Out Here Festival. Andrew is a hi-fi expert at Loud and Clear, one of the UK’s leading home audio retailers, in addition to running the excellent disco reissue label, Groove Line Records. Perhaps most importantly, Iain and Andrew were close associates of the late David Mancuso and were involved with some of the parties hosted by Mancuso in Glasgow in the early 2000s. For many years they have worked together on the sound for the Lucky Cloud Sound System – ‘the London Loft’.

The music

What might you hear on the night? As broad a spectrum as possible. Dance music can often feel tied down by expectations and we want to promote a freedom to explore its potential in a party environment. Our main priority is to play uplifting music that gives energy and brings people together in both a welcoming and intense celebration. Rhythmic, hypnotic and psychedelic sounds are all essentials whether that’s deep spiritual jazz, ecstatic Gospel, house, disco, reggae, cumbia, psychedelic soul, afrobeat…

If you want a preview of the type of music you might hear you can listen back to recordings from our previous parties over on our Mixcloud.

The food & drink

For this party we are delighted to be partnering with the wonderful Milk Cafe who will be serving food in the downstairs space until 8pm.

In their own words – ‘MILK is a social enterprise set up to support women from a migrant background, including refugees and asylum seekers. We are a catering company and community space in the Southside of Glasgow. Our aim is to provide a safe and welcoming environment that promotes integration within the community.

Included in the ‘party+food’ ticket is a Sri Lankan-inspired aubergine and tamarind curry with sweet pickle, coconut relish and rice. Food will also be available to buy on the night until 8pm (or it runs out) but if you want to guarantee a plate then we strongly recommend buying a ‘party+food’ ticket. As always the wonderful and friendly team at Civic House will be running a bar.

We want the party to be a place for people to meet and get to know one another in and around the dancing so we open our doors early at 5pm.

Ticketing Info

Tickets are £12 for just the party, or £20 if you want to add a plate of food. Kids are welcome for free until 8pm (no tickets required!). We are also offering a number of free tickets for those who are unemployed or times are tight – please email us for more information.
