Hello Agile City Community!
We’ve officially entered spooky season, and we’re excited for the autumnal vibes to reach our campus.
With a new month comes 2 new opportunities – a chance to work with us as our Canteen Operator, and a new position as a Campus Caretaker! See below for details on the position, and how to apply.
Opportunity – Canteen Operator
We are looking for a chef, caterer or food business to become the long-term operator of Civic House Canteen.
At the heart of our retrofit of Civic House is a simple ambition: to create a place where food, workspace and cultural activity come together, giving individuals and communities the space to meet, collaborate and do their best work.
As our programme continues to grow, we’re looking for a canteen partner to become part of the long-term future of the building.
This is an opportunity to build a thriving food business at the heart of Civic House – a venue, canteen and workspace home to a diverse community working across cultural, social and green enterprise.

Opportunity – Campus Caretaker
Agile City CIC are delighted to announce an opportunity for a Campus Caretaker to join us on a 12-month fixed term contract.
We are seeking a practical-orientated, creative-problem solver, and proactive Campus Caretaker to support the regular maintenance, upkeep, and cleaning of our campus of spaces.
The Campus Caretaker will be responsible for maintaining our award-winning spaces to a high standard for the variety of communities we serve.

Split Screen Meetup ‘in the making’

Join us for Split Screen, an inspiring meetup bringing together Scotland’s tech, creative, and performing arts communities to connect, share, and explore the future of creative practice. Led by the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in partnership with Citizens Theatre, Arcadia, Creative Glasgow, and The Work Room – with support from the Scottish Government’s Ecosystem Community Fund – this gathering delves into cutting-edge technology, from 3D worldbuilding and digital avatars to motion capture and immersive storytelling.
Throughout the evening, you’ll hear lightning talks from pioneering artists and technologists sharing work in progress, test interactive demos, and enjoy plenty of food and refreshments.

Loud Poets: Glasgow Spoken Word Showcase

Don’t miss the next fantastic show from Scotland’s premier spoken word night, taking over Civic House!
For over ten years, Loud Poets has been showcasing the best spoken word poetry from Scotland and beyond. Expect fist-thumping, heart-wrenching, side-tickling performances backed by live musical accompaniment.
Hosted by Kevin Mclean with music from Jack Hinks, this showcase features incredible sets from Joelle Taylor, EmmaClaire Brightlyn, India de Bono, plus an Open Mic slot.

Glasgow Tool Library: Yard Sale & Repair Cafe

Glasgow Tool Library is taking over Civic Street for International Repair Day, partnering with Repair Cafe Glasgow!
GTL is having a massive clear-out to find new homes for surplus equipment, with most items available for free or by donation. Plus, bring along your faulty products and broken household items to get them fixed for free by the expert Repair Cafe Glasgow team.

Glasgow Going for Gold Harvest Celebration

Come and join the Glasgow Food Policy Partnership at Civic House on 31st October for a celebration of the Going for Gold campaign and to enjoy local food and music.
A fun event for families and anyone interested in seasonal food!

Agile City x pop-up mobility hub
August – October

Glasgow’s pop-up mobility hub will be at Agile City for only a couple more weeks! This is part of a project to help people walk, wheel or cycle more for local journeys.
Thanks to CoMoUK, you can visit Civic Street and use the mobility hub for bike parking, hiring bikes from Voi, a public bike repair kit and pump, among various free community activities.

Events Recap:
In Your Face: An Exhibition by Steven A Hart
Artist Steven A Hart hosted his five-day exhibition, In Your Face, at The Glue Factory, highlighted by a special charity auction.
The centerpiece of the evening was a live charity auction featuring framed original artworks and framed signed prints depicting three monumental Scottish sporting figures: rugby legend Doddie Weir, Celtic FC icon Jimmy Johnstone, and Rangers FC star Fernando Ricksen.
Designed to raise vital funds for Motor Neurone Disease research and support, all proceeds from the live auction bids and print sales were directly donated to MND Scotland and the My Name’s Doddie Foundation. This exhibition united local art, sporting, and wider communities to drive funding and awareness for MND support services.
Agile City x Cue Props social
This past month, we hosted our member social event in collaboration with Cue Props! Cue is a forward-looking not-for-profit company set up by three creative directors to make the entertainment industry a greener place. The team aims to repair, repurpose and reuse props from productions across the UK using sustainable methods and as a result, engage the industry in a green cycle by stopping props from going to landfill.
Our Civic House memebers hopped over to the Glue Factory to meet with Cue Props in their Introduction to Prop Making workshop. This workshop explored the problem-solving and creativity of creating a prop from scratch. At the end, they had created their very own light up candle.
A massive thanks to Merlin and Rhonda for hosting this event with us!
