Agile City Newsletter – March/April 2026
Hello Agile City Community!
Spring is finally in the air! The days are getting longer, the skies are brighter, and there’s a renewed sense of energy all around us.
To perfectly time with the changing seasons, we are thrilled to share that Phase 1 of our outdoor green space is complete. It has been amazing seeing the space evolve over the past few months, and we are excited to see how everything comes together.
Scroll down to catch up on all the highlights from our March activities, get a sneak peek at the exciting plans we have in store for April, and read through some special announcements you definitely won’t want to miss.
Civic Street Project – Phase 1 Complete
Over the past 6 months we oversaw the transformation of a once derelict and overgrown area of land into a consciously designed green space on Civic Street. The award winning landscape company M Squared have carried out the works which included large-scale site clearances of vegetation and debris, drainage improvements, tree planting, turfing, installation of public benches and specially fabricated bike stands, and resurfacing of public areas. This is only phase 1, with much more planned for 2026-2027: keep your eyes peeled! Civic Street is a collaborative, evolving project. Rather than delivering a fixed outcome, it is designed to grow over time—shaped by the people and organisations who will use and activate the space.
We wish to give thanks to our funders, SPT, through the People and Place Programme, specifically Alex and Beth our fund managers who have been generous with their time and assistance at every step. And our partnership with Glasgow City Council and their Vacant and Derelict Land Fund. Additionally, this project would not have been possible without the hard work and persistence from the team at ERZ Studio, particularly Felicity, Finn, and Tie, and our QS David. Toby Paterson and Raydale Dower deserve thanks for the highly considered arrangement of steps and benches around the slopes of the green space – we can’t wait for the sun to come out and see people bring those areas to life. Our project manager Ryan Bolton at M Squared has been a pleasure to work with. We thank him for his care and attention to detail in bringing this project to completion.
Keep an eye on your inbox for more information about this project and our next phase as we bring this space to life. This initiative will support active travel and sustainable movement, encourage reuse and sustainable design, explore connections to food growing and local resilience, and link with Agile City’s wider theme of retrofit.
