Welcome back Agile City Community!

We’re sick of the weather analogies, so instead, we put this simply. Rain or shine, our campus is host to a wonderful array of events, that are both creatively adept and morally conscientious. This month has been no exception.

Read on to find out more ….

Upcoming Events:

Another People Place
Saturday 8th November, 8pm – late
Civic House, 26 Civic Street, Glasgow, G4 9RH

We’re excited to welcome Another People Place back to Civic House on Saturday 8th November for their next cruise down the celestial highway – and tickets are on sale now.

After a packed-out debut in July full of summer energy, the crew return with their full system, immersive decor, and signature hi-fi gadgets. Expect deep sounds from Detroit, Chicago and beyond, played through a handbuilt, custom-tuned soundsystem inspired by classic Altec designs.

Rooted in DIY ethos and community spirit, Another People Place is all about dancing, self-expression, and sonic exploration. All profits go straight back into building and refining the system.

No one’s turned away for lack of funds – message the organisers if needed. To stay in the loop about future events and system updates, join their mailing list.

Trailer for a Nation I Workshop with Kialy Tihngang
Tuesday 25th November, 2pm – 4:30pm
Civic House, 26 Civic Street, Glasgow, G4 9RH

Artist Kialy Tihngang leads a free speculative scriptwriting workshop for artists based in Scotland (not in education). Inspired by her film Neyinka and the Silver Gong (created with Josie KO for Fir Gorma at Glasgow International 2024), the session explores how national identity is constructed, mythologised, and simplified — much like the dramatic storytelling of movie trailers.

Through discussion, artistic research, and creative exercises, participants will examine how speculative fiction can reframe erased or silenced histories and challenge dominant national myths. Kialy will guide attendees in crafting their own “trailers” for alternate histories, using the language of film marketing to expose how selective storytelling shapes cultural identity.

There are 12 places available – please apply here.

Ceòl is Craic
Friday 28th November, 8pm
Civic House, 26 Civic Street, Glasgow, G4 9RH

This concert explores musical storytelling through Gaelic song and contemporary program music, featuring ten new works from Màiri Callan’s project Slighe Fonn na Bardachd: Bho Bhalbhachd nan Duilleag gu Binn-ghuthan an t-Sluaigh / The Musical Journey of Verse, alongside pieces by Savourna Stevenson and Miles Norris.

Inspired by Gaelic poetry’s sung origins, Màiri composed melodies for ten historical texts, giving voice to bards whose songs were lost to time. Blending traditional, classical, and contemporary techniques, her work celebrates the expressive power of music and verse.

Performers include Màiri Callan, Ruairidh Gray, Alice Macmillan, Miles Norris, and Fionnlagh Mac a’ Phiocair.

Purchase your ticket here.

Coorie Doon
Saturday 29th November,
Civic House, 26 Civic Street, Glasgow, G4 9RH

It’s that time again – everyones favourite loft party is back for another gathering of collective joy on the dancefloor. The Coorie Doon crew are ready to usher in some sonic relief from the looming winter, so wrap up and lock in.

Tickets are highly prized and availability is limited, so be sure to avoid disappointment and sign up to the Coorie Doon mailing list to access the ticket link.

Of Us & Others

We were proud to host Of Us & Others, a one-day screening of Maya Rose Edwards’ new film, created through The Alasdair Gray Archive’s inaugural visual art commission.

Inspired by WWI “camouflage trees”—hollow structures used for covert observation—Edwards created two sculptural installations designed as spaces for live, anonymous conversations between LGBTQIA+ thinkers. These conversations, shown on a rolling loop in tandem with the installation, harked to themes of queer identity, kinship, and imagined futures — themes inspired by the writings of Alasdair Gray and Edwin Morgan.

Audiences were invited to respond to questions posed in the film, and many stayed on to share their thoughts together. This was a wonderful reflection of the project’s sensitivity, and its ability to foster sincere conversation is its lasting testament.

Heading outdoors to gather natural textures and shapes, feeding into a conversation on biophilic design and how to bring nature’s calm indoors.

Green Mapping for Interiors

Earlier this month, Civic House was delighted to host Green Mapping for Interiors, an inspiring upskilling session inviting participants to take a closer, more creative look at the sustainability of their own homes. Together, attendees explored how small, practical changes can make a big difference to comfort, energy use, and wellbeing.

Through home-mapping exercises, discussions on energy efficiency, and hands-on exploration of sustainable materials and reuse, the group discovered new ways to design greener, more mindful living spaces.

The workshop offered both practical takeaways and fresh perspectives on low-impact living.

This event was part of Sustainable Design for Home and Community: A Four-Part Workshop Series. The next session takes place on Tuesday 18 November – sign up here.

Bread for the World

Bread for the World was a bread-making workshop, facilitated by Argentinian artist Tiziano Cruz and hosted in Civic House Canteen, as part of Take Me Somewhere, Scotland’s biennial festival of radical performance.

Tiziano invited participants to bake bread as a way of thinking together about who we are, and who we remember. The bread was then used in his show Wayqeycuna – a generous, intimate performance interweaving personal history with critical reflections on the art market and class privilege.

News & Updates:

Matthew demonstrates the process of ‘flooding’ to Agile City Members

Studio Social – Screen printing at M.A.R.S Studio

October saw the third instalment of our Agile City Studio Social – an opportunity for our members campus-wide to down-tools and spend some time together.

We were treated with a visit to M.A.R.S Studio  – printmaker Matthew Rich kindly opened the doors to his Glue Factory studio for a nosey and a screenprinting masterclass.

Matthew has over 40 years experience in printmaking – He cut his teeth as a flyposterer (a selection of his archive from the era is currently on display at The Social), and has spent his career working with a plethora of artists and musicians, from Peter Blake to Rachel Whiteread to Dev Hynes.

Thank you so much to Matthew for his generosity and expertise, it was great to get stuck in. I’m sure our sample prints will soon be hanging on living room walls across the city!

The Plant Based Sarnies team after another successful pop-up

Plant Based Sarnies – Autumn Pop-Up

Natasha returned to our canteen last week for another triumphant Plant-Based Sarnies pop-up – this time with a Halloween theme. No tricks; just freshly baked sourdough and the finest ingredients of the season – it all went down a treat.

As is quickly becoming a given, the canteen was mobbed. The Agile City staff highlight was a seriously good pumpkin pie (that might just have topped the rhubarb).

Well done to Tash and the Sarnie Team for another successful show.
