Wed 7th June
A community meal and panel discussion in celebration of Glaswegian spaces that played host to “radical events” – where other futures felt possible, and the resultant community infrastructure sown by these actions. This event and accompanying work explores the dynamic ecology of people and spaces which have played an important role in Glasgow’s radical social and spatial history.

From the Pollok Free State to the Govanhill Baths, GalGael to the Kenmure Street Protest, Glasgow has a wonderful history of collective organising and mutual aid. (R)Evolution! Radical Spaces and Autonomous Actions seeks to document the history and lineage of these radical spaces and autonomous actions, placing them within their wider social and political contexts.

Early stages of the project have involved collaboration with Stage 4 students undertaking a research module at the Mackintosh School of Architecture at the Glasgow School of Art. The research draws out principles of learning relating to mutual cooperation, organising, power dynamics, and autonomous civil activity. The locations and spatial characteristics of each moment and space will also be explored in order to move towards an understanding of the relationships between direct action and urbanised space and the conditions within which this manifests.

Join us for an evening of (re)connecting with Glasgow’s radical past – the spaces it has inspired across the city, and imagining its future.

The Architecture Fringe shall be joined on the evening by:

Gehan Macleod (Galgael Trust)

Hannah Torrance-Bright (This Is Rigged)

Stephen Skrynka (The Revelator)

BSL interpreters will be in attendance.

This event is led by Architecture Fringe as part of their 2023 festival. Architecture Fringe is a grassroots organisation based in Scotland that explores architecture and design in our social, political and cultural contexts.
