Coorie Doon February Party + Parveen’s
Hope you’re all doing well in this new year and keeping warm in the walk-in freezer that Glasgow has been recently. We come bearing news of an incoming party celebrating one year of Coorie Doon at Civic House 🎈
Saturday 24 February 2024, 5pm to late
Kids welcome until 8pm (for free)
It’s now almost exactly a year since our first Coorie Doon, so it’s about time to head back to the dancefloor and celebrate our first time around. Thank you to everyone for making this party what it is, the dancers are the performance. We cannot wait to go on another cosmic journey of music and connection with you all!
As it’s the birthday of the party and a bit of a special occasion, we are partly handing over musical reigns to some of the best record collections in town, some of Coorie Doon’s biggest supporters and friends, without whom this party would not exist. We have some crafty, participative ideas planned as part of our celebrations, so get down to early to check that out! If you think you’d like to get involved in making the party happen, we’re always open to new community members. Come say hi at the party or drop us an email. The more diverse and open folks involved the better party for everyone!
Coorie Doon is a hi-fi dance party with a varied and global music policy, inspired by David Mancuso’s Loft party tradition and the unique dancing spirit of Glasgow. If you’re new to our party, read on to find out more, and check out our website and social media for music, pics and words that delve a little deeper. Also do reach out to us with any questions at all, or if you’d like to be on our mailing list.

About Coorie Doon
Coorie Doon is a Glasgow dance party built on the uplifting power of music and the collective joy of the dancefloor. We aim to capture the best of a house party experience, whilst being open to all. Our inspiration comes from the ethos of David Mancuso’s radical Loft party. To find out more about our party’s values and origins head over to our website.
This is a party for anyone and everyone with a love of music and dancing, particularly those who don’t feel at home in the usual commercial club setting – we hope our party offers something different. If you’d like to come along on your own or with friends and feel a bit unsure, get in contact and we’ll make sure to introduce you to some folks in our burgeoning community.
We are a non-profit group and any proceeds from one party will be invested into making the next one even better. In the long term we also hope to raise money for charities and local groups aligned with our values.
The venue
We are delighted to be returning to Civic House First floor Studio for our next party. With its open plan space, wooden floors and vaulted ceiling, the venue is ideal for hosting our Loft-inspired party and delivering excellent room acoustics and house party atmosphere.
The sound
As before, we’re incredibly lucky to be working with two of the most influential people in the world of audiophile dance parties – Iain Mackie and Andrew Pirie. Iain is the Director of Danley Distribution and A-Live Sound, and has installed some of the best sound systems for venues and events around the world including We Out Here Festival. Andrew is a hi-fi expert at Loud and Clear, one of the UK’s leading high-end audio shops, in addition to running the excellent audiophile disco reissue label, Groove Line Records. Perhaps most importantly, Iain and Andrew were close associates of the late David Mancuso and were involved with some of the parties hosted by Mancuso in Glasgow in the early 2000s. For many years they have worked together on the sound for the Lucky Cloud Sound System – ‘the London Loft’.
The music
What might you hear on the night? As broad a spectrum as possible. Dance music can often feel tied down by expectations and we want to promote a freedom to explore its potential in a party environment. Our main priority is to play uplifting music that gives energy and brings people together in both a welcoming and intense celebration. Rhythmic, hypnotic and psychedelic sounds are all essentials whether that’s deep spiritual jazz, ecstatic Gospel, house, disco, reggae, cumbia, psychedelic soul, afrobeat…
If you want a preview of the type of music you might hear you can listen back to recordings from our previous parties over on our Mixcloud.
The food & drink
We want the party to be a place for people to meet and get to know one another in and around the dancing so we open our doors early at 5pm with food being served in the downstairs space by the wonderful Parveen’s. Food will be available to buy on the night until 8pm (or it runs out) but if you want to guarantee a plate then we strongly recommend buying a ‘party+food’ ticket. A bar will also be run by Civic house.
Ticketing Info
Tickets are £12 for just the party, or £20 if you want to add a plate of food. Kids are welcome for free until 8pm (no tickets required!). We are also offering a number of free tickets for those who are unemployed – please email us for more information.
Accessibility
Unfortunately the first floor is not fully accessible at this time.
