Civic Street Open Day: June 4th

Date & Time
Building

The first Saturday of each month from May to September (7th May, 4th June, 2nd July, 6th August, 3rd September) marks a Civic Street Open Day – where Agile City and its partners Bike For Good and Glasgow Tool Library welcome our communities to get involved in workshops, events, talks, and collective making.

Taking the Civic Street site as a commons and a resource to be shared, we ask you to get involved in activating the area through building, planting, growing, cooking and play. We will offer different levels of engagement through these hosted activities – allowing you to get as involved as you choose.

In return we will give you the time and space to learn new skills, connect with the site and meet new people. Through this process of cooperation with each other and the ecology of the street we hope to create a hub of collaboration, community and democratic exchange which will shape the development of the site into the future.

Here’s what we’ve all got up to at past Civic Street Open Days!

June 4th Activities:

Glasgow Tool Library Yard Sale was the perfect opportunity to browse through tools to find yourself a bargain – cheap as chisels! Amelia Bywater also led three workshops providing an introduction to power tools and the skills you need to complete woodwork & DIY tasks safely and effectively.

Intro to Sewing was a two hour workshop, led by our wonderful volunteer Margaret Mitchel, introducing attendees to the basics of a sewing machine through sewing their own tool roll. All were welcome to bring their own tools (small gardening tools, jewellery, etc) and make a tool roll to their measurements.

Cycle Saturdays with Bike For Good returned once more with their range of workshops for beginners and experienced cyclists.
