We were delighted to host the premiere of Young Warriors, a powerful new podcast from the Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research, here in Civic House canteen. Written and conducted by criminologist Alistair Fraser, the series asks young people and youth workers across six UK cities what they believe needs to change to address the challenges facing their communities.

Ali is a regular Coworker here at Civic House Studio, and we were honoured that he thought it important that the podcast launch be hosted here. “A lot of the planning and scripting for the series was done right here in CH, powered by Parveens, so it felt very apt” said Fraser, extending ” [a] huge thanks to everyone for their hard work and support for the event, and for building the creative space that made it possible”

The evening itself was brilliant – the canteen was bustling, with drink and catering provided and served by members of the local youth centre and wider community of Maryhill. The event was a real testament to the importance of creating spaces where ideas like these can be shared and celebrated.

Criminologist and Author Alistair Fraser

Young Warriors hands the microphone directly to young people and youth workers, travelling across six UK cities to hear their perspectives first-hand –  London, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Dundee, before concluding back in Fraser’s hometown of Glasgow. Alistair, who has spent the past 20 years researching why young people become involved in violence and street crime, said “Young people are often stigmatised by the media and made to feel they don’t have a voice in the very issues that affect them the most. The podcast series offers a space for young people, and those who work closely with them, to express themselves and their opinions about what’s going on in their communities and what changes they want to see.”

We were honoured to host the launch of Young Warriors at Civic House and to support a project so closely aligned with our values — collaboration, community, and giving space to voices that deserve to be heard.
