Sunday 15th June 2025, 5pm – 6:30pm
Civic House, 26 Civic Street, Glasgow G4 9RH

Join us at Civic House for two evenings of experimental music, sound art, and international collaboration, featuring world premieres by leading artists from Ukraine and the UK, as part of a wider programme encouraging us to reflect, and connect to the beauty and danger of sounds beyond our control.

First up, a world premiere of a collaboration by a mouthwatering experimental duo — Scottish composer-performer Genevieve Murphy and Ukrainian composer-performer alice haspyd, whose work deconstructs visual and musical influences into minimal noise.

Also premiering is a collaborative piece from Ukrainian pianist Yuriy Seredin and renowned Scottish saxophonist Raymond MacDonald, navigating the edges between improvisation and composition. They’ll be joined by a genre-busting supergroup of top-tier musicians, including Aidan O’Rourke, Signy Jakobsdottir, Una McGlone, Danielle Price, Chris Greive, Robert Henderson, and Diljeet K Bhachu. Visual artworks by MacDonald will also be on display.

Tickets and more info can be found here.

Thursday 19th June
Civic House, 26 Civic Street, Glasgow G4 9RH

Join us for an evening with architect Piers Taylor who reflects on his work and practice in relation to the provocation for this year’s Architecture Fringe, Reciprocity – Architectures of Exchange.

Piers Taylor is an Architect and Professor of Knowledge Exchange in Architecture at UWE. He studied in Sydney and the UK and was awarded an anniversary scholarship for his PhD which examined the consequences of architectural making in participatory contexts. He is also founder of Invisible Studio, a multi-award-winning architecture practice, operating through collaboration, experimentation, research and education. He has pioneered a number of academic programmes that rethink the relationship between design and making. His current research explores how we can design, plan and govern for social change – how architecture supports and makes tangible actions that encourage a civil society.

Events Recap:

Young Warriors Podcast Launch

We were delighted to house the premier of Young Warriors, a new podcast from The Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research, which asks young people and youth workers across six UK cities about what they think needs to be done to resolve the issues they face. The Podcast was written and conducted by Criminologist, Alistair Fraser.

Alistair, who has spent the last 20 years studying why young people get involved in violence and street crime, said: “Young people are often stigmatised by the media and made to feel they don’t have a voice in the very issues that affect them the most. The podcast series offers a space for young people, and those who work closely with them, to express themselves and their opinions about what’s going on in their communities and what changes they want to see.”

Ali is a regular Coworker here at Civic House Studio, and we were honoured that he thought it important that the podcast launch be hosted here. It was a brilliant evening.

You can read more about the Young Warriors podcast on The Big Light and listen to the podcast on Spotify.

Criminologist and Author Alistair Fraser

“A lot of the planning and scripting for the series was done right here in CH, powered by Parveens, so it felt very apt. Huge thanks to everyone for their hard work and support for the event, and for building the creative space that made it possible”

Glasgow Sustainable Food Directory

On the 13th May, the Glasgow Sustainable Food Directory hosted their first training event for Glasgow’s hospitality industry at Civic House. They’re currently taking applications to join the 4th Edition, and this event was a chance for hospitality employees in the city to hear from experts in sustainable sourcing, food waste, and fair work; speak to local sustainable suppliers; and network.

Restaurants, cafes, food shops and bakeries can all apply to be a part of the next edition here.

If you’d like to recap the event and view take-aways from the day, you can find slides and photos on the Glasgow Food Policy Partnership website.

News & Updates:

Parveens announcement

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Parveen’s, our beloved canteen partner at Civic House, will be moving on this summer, effective from the end of June.

We have been so honoured to have worked with them over the past 3 years, witnessing their progression from start-up to the highly regarded foodie destination they are today. We are proud to share that they are evolving beyond incubation at Civic House to seek their own dedicated restaurant – a truly exciting stage in their journey.

We will miss them dearly, but cannot wait to watch them operate at the great heights this move will take them to – wherever they settle, you’ll find us in the queue for a Samosa Pie.

We’re looking to establish a new partner for the canteen to take over the daily food service and event catering at Civic House. If this is of interest to you, please enquire via hello@agile-city.com

Living Wage Accreditation

We are proud to announce that Agile City is an accredited Living Wage Employer – reflecting our commitment to fairness, respect, and responsible employment. While we have been for some time, we are glad to have had this officially recognised.

By paying the real Living Wage, we ensure our team earns a wage that meets the cost of living — not just the government minimum. We encourage similar institutions and employers to do the same.

Find out more about the real Living Wage here.

Thank you to everyone who created, planned, attended and contributed to all the wonderful activities across campus this month.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
