Hello again Agile City Community!
I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling the summer slump… I’ve been taking light jackets and open windows for granted! While our buildings are a little quieter, don’t be fooled! We’re living proof that there’s still lots of summer fun to be relished.
City saunas, sound systems new dawn and a plethora of wonderful events sandwiched in between. Read ooon …
Events Recap:
CREF Launch Event
Late June saw the launch of the Community Renewable Energy Framework (CREF) to support communities through the process of developing renewable energy projects on council owned or managed land within the city. The CREF will help communities by providing a framework of support for them to follow. Four sites were identified within the Easterhouse and Milton areas of the city with potential for community energy in the initial phase.
The event was well attended by representatives from local community organisations, Local Energy Scotland, as well as elected members.
You can find out more about the CREF, including information on upcoming events and access to the Pre-Application Form and guidance here.
Another People Place
Saturday 19th marked a stellar launch for Another People Place, a new dance party courtesy of the Coorie Doon gang. Premiering their brand-new, handbuilt soundsystem, we were blown away by cosmic energy – the dancefloor was packed out as ever, and the team were excited to finally bring everything together. With a musical journey rooted in the lineage of Black music from Detroit, Chicago and beyond, the night was filled with warm, soulful selections aplenty.
Set with a custom-built parquet dancefloor, sound insulation, and Altec-inspired stacks, they truly elevated the space. Huge thanks to everyone who danced, helped set up and pack down, and made the night such a delight. The APP team are building something long-term here, and Saturday was just the beginning — we can’t wait to do it all again soon.

LUX Scotland – Filmmaking as a Social Practice
Civic House Canteen was recently host to a workshop led by artist Helen McCrorie, facilitated by LUX Scotland. The workshop brought together a small group of Scotland-based artists to explore the social potential of filmmaking. Rooted in Helen’s ethos of filmmaking as mutual learning, the session centred around a communal salad-making activity using fresh produce from Tomnah’a Market Garden. Conversations about power dynamics, embodiment, and the potential of the camera to reveal and obscure ensued over a shared lunch, facilitating discussions of how film might serve as a tool for collective exploration. It was a brilliant session — huge thanks to Helen for her generosity, and to all the participants and cooperators for their thoughtful contributions throughout the day.

Studio Social
July saw the second installation of our Agile City Members Studio Social – this time, we took to the Glue! Those who braved torrential rain were rewarded with a wonderful tour courtesy of our Facilities Manager, Fraser, navigating the varying stages of the buildings ongoing retrofit project.
Our Glue Factory Studio holders very generously hosted an Open Studio alongside, giving us a rare glimpse into their practices. A massive thank you to Queue Props, Risotto Studio, Too Happy Studios and Office Studio for facilitating, and to Fraser for the words. Onto the next!

The victorious Sarnie Team
Plant Based Sarnies
Monday 28th July saw the much-anticipated return of Natasha’s Plant-Based Sarnies to our Canteen – as ever, a palpable hit ! Her seasonal vegan sandwiches and pies were flying , all made in-house with bread using Scotland the Bread flour and fresh produce from The Washhouse Garden.
Congrats to Tash and the Sarnie Team on another success – it was such a joy to see the Canteen mobbed and full of punters once again.
Keep your eyes peeled for news on her next pop-up – got a feeling it won’t be long! fingers crossed for rhubarb ….
