Hello wood is an international summer school that brings together groups of students from creative disciplines to build temporary structures out of wood, throughout a week long period. Each year professional tutors are invited to guide teams of students through a construction process which explores a yearly theme outside Budapest, Hungary. Students learn first-hand building techniques, craftsmanship skills and develop invaluable knowledge to further their field of study and professional career.

The project was initiated in 2009 by local architects and designers, Péter Pozsár, András Huszár and Dávid Ráday in Budapest and has gradually grown each year to involve more participants and test even more construction techniques during the week long camps.

In 2015, Hello Wood has developed ‘Project Village’ as the theme for their workshop and symposium. The project will produce 15 structures constructed by teams led by international architects and artists, the structures include; dwellings, theatre, cinema, pub, village tower and public seating. Forming the first stage of a three year development for a Project Village. Each year new structures will expand the village, evolving and testing new ideas on how to create sustainable out-of-city living.

In addition to the week-long building camp, the Hello Wood team have also introduced creative internships, workshop and conferences along with the Hello Wood Junior camp.

A growth of construction based summer schools is ever expanding and proving to be a valuable resource for learning and networking. Some of our favourites include Scottish based TOG studio, Student led EASA (European Architecture Students Assembly) and this years 1:1 Summer School in Liechtenstein.
